After Robert Smithson.
These pieces continue the investigation into solid woods, but push the parameters away from solidity towards a certain linearity. The wood is no longer a 2” plank but a 1.5” X 1.5" stud. The pieces, and there is an entire alphabet of them in development, are explorations into “literal and phenomenological transparency” in the words of Colin Rowe. They are named as a tribute to one of the greatest artists/writers/thinkers of our time. We believe it is important to keep our influences in the fore ground so that their legacy lives on through us. Smithson and certain Minimalist artists are memorialized in one of the ARTLESS A.P.C. projects.
